Connecting the recorder to a TV or monitor
Connecting a recording device to a monitor or TV can be easy if you follow these steps:
Equipment needed:
- Recording device .
- Monitor or TV
- HDMI or VGA cable
- Optionally an adapter if the device and monitor/TV have different connectors
Procedure:
Connect using HDMI cable:
- Check the ports
- Make sure both the recording device and the monitor/TV have HDMI ports. - Connect the cable
- Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI output on the recording device.
- Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI input on the monitor or TV. - Setting the input on the monitor/TV
- Turn on the monitor or TV.
- Use the remote control or buttons on the monitor/TV to switch the input to HDMI (usually labeled HDMI1, HDMI2, etc., depending on which port you have connected the cable to). - Turn on the recording device
- Turn on the recording device and it should automatically appear on the monitor or TV screen.
Connect using a VGA cable
- Check the ports
- Make sure both the recording device and the monitor/TV have VGA ports. (Note: VGA does not transmit audio, so you will need a separate cable for audio.) - Connecting the cable
- Plug one end of the VGA cable into the VGA output on the recording device.
- Plug the other end of the VGA cable into the VGA input on the monitor or TV. - Connecting an audio cable (optional)
- If you want to have sound as well, connect an audio cable (e.g. 3.5mm jack) from the recording device to the audio input on the monitor or external speakers. - Setting the input on the monitor/TV
- Turn on the monitor or TV.
- Use the remote control or buttons on the monitor/TV to switch the input to VGA. - Turn on the recording device
- Turn on the recording device and it should automatically appear on the monitor or TV screen.
Tips:
- HDMI is preferable to VGA because HDMI transmits both video and audio and usually provides better picture quality.
- If you only have VGA and need audio, don't forget the audio cable.
- Make sure all cables are firmly connected to avoid poor signal or picture dropouts.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully connect your recording device to your monitor or TV using an HDMI or VGA cable.
Caution:
Often, customers connect the HDMI or VGA outputs from recorders and cameras to these connectors on their laptops and computers thinking that it is an input. This experiment can cause irreversible damage to both devices which is not covered by warranty! So only connect monitors and TVs!
Most common errors:
After connecting the recorder to the monitor I see only the start-up logo (or nothing)
