What is the difference between FULL COLOR and IR security camera?

Night Vision

  • FULL COLOR Cameras: They have integrated illumination from visible white light and thus provide a color image, which can be advantageous for identifying vehicles, clothing, or other specific details. The disadvantage is that due to the emitted white light, the camera may become an easy target for vandals.
  • IR Cameras: Infrared cameras are designed for use in low light or complete darkness. Although they provide a black and white image, they are capable of capturing details even at night. The integrated illumination is not visible to the human eye.

Image Quality

Both types have the same integrated image sensor chip, so there is no difference in image quality.

Usage

  • FULL COLOR Cameras: Ideal for areas with well-lit environments, such as commercial spaces or public places during the day.
  • IR Cameras: The best choice for areas that require continuous surveillance, including night monitoring, such as parking lots, warehouses, or outdoor areas.

DUAL-LIGHT cameras

These cameras combine both types of illumination and their advantages. The spotlights have both types of LED diodes for white and IR light. It is up to the user how to set up the camera and when the camera should emit which light.

An example of such a DUAL-LIGHT camera is the PRD45DL

Conclusion

The choice between FULL COLOR and IR cameras depends on specific needs and deployment conditions. For detailed and color recordings during the day, FULL COLOR cameras are ideal, while for effective night monitoring, IR cameras are better. In most cases, a combination of both types is effective for achieving the best possible surveillance.
