What is a real WDR?

WDR stands for "Wide Dynamic Range" and is a technology used in security cameras. This feature helps to improve image quality in situations with large contrasts between light and dark areas.

In some scenarios, such as when the camera is facing a window or door, it can be very light in the background and very dark in the foreground. This could cause the camera to miss details in dark or too light areas. WDR helps to balance this lighting and ensure that details are preserved throughout the image.

When WDR is turned on, the camera takes multiple images at different exposure levels and combines them into a single image that shows both dark and bright areas well. This is particularly useful in situations where the lighting of the scene varies, such as entering a building where the interior lighting may be very different from the light outside.
