How do I set up motion detection and AI events

What is motion detection?

Motion detection is a special feature of PATRONUM security cameras and recorders that compares changes in the image in real time and, based on user-set rules, starts and stops the recording of the footage, in case it performs other actions.

What are the pros of using detection?

  • This feature can save up to 90% of storage space and achieve several times the retention time of a recording than would be the case with continuous recording.
  • Searching for the desired recording is significantly easier as detection events can be displayed and easily browsed.
  • With backups, a lengthy download of several tens of minutes is not necessary, but just the event itself, which is on the order of several tens of seconds.
  • In case you want to be notified about a detection event, you can do so, for example, by email.

What are the downsides of classical detection?

It is important to note that classical detection systems do not yet recognize motion relevance and only work with the magnitude of the change in the image and the rules that the user can set (sensitivity and area). As a result, "false" alarms may occur. However, setting up AI detection functions of people or vehicles can eliminate this malfunction, where the system can recognize and detect specific shapes and movement within the rules set, eliminating false alarms.

How is detection set up?

Motion detection is always set separately for each camera/channel in PATRONUM camera systems. The configuration consists of setting the detection area, sensitivity and timing for each day and hour of the week.
